With over 10 years of experience in lecturing, I have developed a student-centred pedagogical philosophy that promotes evidence-based practice, and a commitment to continuous improvement. I believe that students learn best when they are engaged, motivated, and have a clear understanding of the relevance and application of what they are learning. In my current role as a senior lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria, I have conceptualized and delivered innovative and engaging lectures, course materials, and curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students, specializing in Community/Public Health Nursing. I aim to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and inquiry-based learning.
Throughout my career, I have participated in various professional development opportunities, including conferences, seminars, and workshops, to stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in Nursing. My commitment to staying abreast of the latest developments in the field has allowed me to integrate cutting-edge research, theories, and practices into my teaching. As a nurse educator, I have demonstrated exceptional mentorship and advisory skills in guiding students in their research projects and dissertations, providing constructive feedback, research methodologies, and academic writing guidance. I have also implemented effective teaching strategies and assessments, such as rubrics and checklists, to evaluate and provide feedback on student performance and learning outcomes.
During my time as a Skills Lab Facilitator at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, I collaborated with a team on an evidence-based clinical skills training program utilizing simulation-based learning, leading to significant improvement in student performance and clinical proficiency. I also led case presentation sessions for Year III nursing students that created a collaborative and supportive learning environment, helping students develop their critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and communication skills. By implementing effective teaching strategies and assessments, such as rubrics and checklists, I evaluated and provided feedback on student case presentations, resulting in measurable improvements in student performance and learning outcomes. My teaching experience has been characterized by a commitment to excellence, innovation, and student-centred learning. I strive to create a learning environment that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and lifelong learning, and I believe that my pedagogical philosophy has been instrumental in my teaching success.
Undoubtedly, my extensive teaching experience has played a pivotal role in shaping my pedagogical philosophy and approach. As a lecturer with research focus in public/community health nursing, I have had the privilege of teaching various courses to undergraduate students over the years across all nursing courses.
I am curious about incorporating interdisciplinary knowledge and experiences from my students’ diverse backgrounds into my courses. In doing so, I strive to create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that recognizes each student’s unique perspective and learning biography. Through my teaching, I aim to break down silos between different areas of nursing and foster a collaborative approach to healthcare that reflects the real-world challenges faced by nursing professionals.
In the subsequent section, I provide a list of my courses and their titles. My roles in these course modules include lecturing, setting of Tutor’s Marked Assignments, examination questions, evaluating assessments, and scheduling E-consultation with students via email and institution teaching and learning platforms.
